Race 6 BC Juvenile Turf Sprint 2:45 pm PDT 5:45 pm EDT
DelMar 2021 Winner - Twilight Gleaming Gate to Wire Final Time: 57.00 (Raced Overseas)
DelMar 2017 Winner - No Race
Overseas Contenders: Ecoro Sieg (JPN) - Shareholder (UK) - Aesterius (IRE) - Coto de Caza (IRE) - Mi Bago (CA) - Magnum Force (IRE) - Celadine (GB) - Big Mogo (IRE) - Arizona Blaze (IRE) - Whistlejacket (IRE) - Ides of March (IRE)
Japan's Ecoro Sieg is a little beast. He broke the 2 year old track record in the Canna Stakes last out. 1200 meters (6f) in 1:07.02. On top of that, he'll have Christophe Lemaire aboard. Major player.
Wesley Ward loves this race, as he has taken the trophy on several occasions with fresh starters. This time, he saddles Floodlites and Dreamaway who definitely need major handicapping scrutiny.
Also, be on the lookout for Irad Ortiz, especially if he sits on one of Ward's charges. An excellent combination for this particular race.
Aiden O'Brien sends Whistlejacket and Ides of March to post. Whistlejacket is seriously fast but his winning ratio is not up to normal par. Ides of March is now on a streak and has posted a very respectable RPR figure of 107 in his last jaunt. Look to see which one gets Ryan Moore on top. I'm hoping it's Ides of March. As far as the huge field of overseas invaders, best left quiet until the PPs come out.
Start of the $3.00 All Turf Pick Three includes Race 6, Race 8, and Race 10.
Race 7 BC Juvenile Fillies Dirt 3:25 pm PDT 6:25 pm EDT
DelMar 2021 Winner - Echo Zulu Gate to Wire Final Time: 1:42.24
DelMar 2017 Winner - Caledonia Road Rear to Wire Final Time: 1:45.05
Overseas Contenders: American Bikini (JPN) - Otomena Shacho (JPN)
American Bikini is the daughter of American Pharoah which mean that DelMar should be right up her alley as far as alignment with the bias. She is quite the sprinter but has yet to compete at this distance.
Otomena Shacho was bred in Kentucky and shipped over to Japan. She was beaten already by American Bikini, coming in second to her at the short distance of only 5f. She then came back to win at 7f, albeit on a sloppy track. Now she attempts a Breeders Cup race. Tall order but she should relish the additional distance. She is not built to be a sprinter.
Race 8 BC Juvenile Fillies Turf 4:05 pm PDT 7:05 pm EDT
DelMar 2021 Winner - Pizza Bianca Rear to Wire Final Time: 1:35.36
DelMar 2017 Winner - Rushing Fall Rear to Wire Final Time: 1:36.09
Overseas Contenders: Lake Victoria (IRE) - Anshoda (IRE) - Vixen (CA) - Nitrogen (CA) - Fiery Lucy (IRE) - Chantez (IRE) - January (IRE) - Heaven's Gate (IRE) - Bubbling (IRE)
If Aiden O'Brien ships Lake Victoria to DelMar for this race, it's all over. This young filly is the offspring of Frankel, undefeated in all 4 starts which include two Gr 1 races. She would far exceed this field in both her performances and her exquisite chart. Killer turf trainer and with Ryan Moore aboard. If this girl hitches a ride with City of Troy, single her on top and handicap for the under spots. It appears now that she is on her way. Her RPR's have steadily progressed at 94 to 104 to 111 and hitting 116 in her last. O'Brien will have her ready to fly. He is also sending out Heaven's Gate and Bubbling, neither of which come anywhere near her league.
Update: Bubbling highly unlikely to be gated at this point.
Race 9 BC Juvenile Dirt 4:45 pm PTD 7:45 pm EDT
DelMar 2021 Winner - Corniche Gate to Wire Final Time: 1:42.50
DelMar 2017 Winner - Good Magic Stalked Lead Final Time: 1:43.34
Overseas Contenders: Ecoro Azel (JPN) - Shin Believe (JPN)
Japan sends Ecoro Azel under trainer Hideyuki Mori who has one win at 6f under his belt. He failed to 5th place in his prep traveling 7f, running midpack. His sire is Shancelot who was a sprinter and damsire Twirling Candy who is pushing turf runners. This may not be the place for this particular Japanese runner and should be of no imminent headache for this race.
On the other hand, Shin Believe will be dropping in distance from his 9f win against a full field of 15 at Niigata. He smoked the field while stalking the lead. Here is the race replay - he is # 10 He was foaled in the USA and sired by Constitution (2nd gen Tapit). He deserves to be taken very seriously within a superfecta.
The same West Coast players meet each other again - Citizen Bull, Gaming, and Getaway Car for Baffert and McKinzie Street for Yakteen. Baffert will use his best 10f player Getaway Car, against the way he should be running to the benefit of his others. Gaming takes all the advantage if strategy is of concern. Jonathan's Way and East Avenue both on par with speed against the West Coast brigade, with Jonathan's Way holding the stamina in the long run. East Avenue walks in with the perfect set-up and should have no excuses.
Race 10 BC Juvenile Turf 5:25 pm PDT 8:25 pm EDT
DelMar 2021 Winner - Modern Games Midpack Final Time: 1:34.72 Overseas
DelMar 2017 Winner - Mendelssohn Stalked Lead Final Time: 1:35.97 Overseas
Overseas Contenders: Satono Carnaval (JPN) - Henri Matisse (IRE) - Monumental (IRE) - Aomori City (FR) - Al Qadra (IRE) -
Dream On (CA) - New Century (GB) - Seagulls Eleven (UK) - The Waco Kid (IRE) - Zulu Kingdom (IRE)
Aiden O'Brien fires up two very promising youngsters with Henri Matisse and Monumental. Unfortunately, Henri Matisse basically bombed at Longchamp last out, hitting a wall after 4 consecutive killer performances. Could have been a very off day. Monumental not quite as fast as his barn mate which makes Henri the stronger of the pair and Aiden's best shot if the horse returns back to previous form.
Appleby saddles two as well, Al Qadra and Aomori City. Al Qadra can move and his form is getting better and better. Won at Ascot and then shipped to Woodbine, came in second to the most likely favorite here, New Century. If this guy continues in his upward pace, he could be Appleby's ticket here. Aomori City is also a very consistently fast competitor but not as consistent in posting wins. He is on par in the speed department though. Between Appleby's two, a huge tell will be which one gets William Buick's approval.
Very in depth field of competitors and much work will need to be done here.
Update: Monumental most likely will not take a gate.
The Sights, The Sounds and More Article will be posted this week which will talk about the Full Moon and Tides as it affects the bias, the pertinent workouts, the jockeys and their horses and so much more.
Specific Analysis on several races will be posted in due time in addition to all of the PPs for both days.
I'm hoping Scythian can provide at least a challenge in the BC Juvenile Filly turf
Love your coverage,😎 Lisa.
